Where Thumbs Rule

Palm just announced their make-break 3-years-in-the-making product, Palm Pre.  The new OS appears to be gorgeous; the feature set very impressive with GSP, WiFi, etc; and the slider provides a full qwerty keyboard.  Very nice work Palm!  Looks like you finally are ready to challenge the iPhone.

However, I am a bit skeptical about the timing of this announcement.  With product avaialbility not expected till the end of the 1srt half, Palm just told every potential customer NOT TO BUY.  Seriously, who would want part with some hard cash knowing that this thing will be ready in 6 month.  Many companies suffer through new product releases.  Howeve, most only leave a couple of months in between so not to suffer too much drought.  Palm, on the other hand, leaves a full 6 month when existing Treo and Centro product will fall off a cliff.  One just hope that they have enough cash to survive and see the Pre is released.

Take a look for yourself if the Pre is worth waiting for.
