Where the Thumb Rules
We have been working on creating applications on the mobile devices since 2005. Java/J2ME, Symbian, Palm, you name it, we have tried. We ran into a number of road blocks, from lack of interoperability of various devices, to lack of means for distribution. Now with iPhone and AppStore, we have a decent chance to overcome both obstacles.
iPhone is a remarkable device. While it is not the first touch screen phone, (Palm has had touch screen models for years,) it is certainly the first to make touch screen center piece by expanding the screen to the full front of device AND removing the hard keys.
Another feature that makes iPhone stand out is the accelerometer. Here again Apple is not the first to utilize this technology, (witness WiiMote.) However by implementing it in a cell phone, Apple opened a door to endless possibilities for fun and interesting applications.
Naturally, these two features are the area of focus for us in developing iPhone applications.
